Jefferson Man Arrested In Armed Robbery At Getty Station

Alleged robber and another township resident, also charged in credit card theft and fraud.

Police say they've arrested the man they believe 

Michael Chapman, 20, of Jefferson Township, was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. He was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $165,000.00 bail.

Police haven't said how they identified Chapman as the alleged robber, only that he was also arrested in connection to an alleged credit card fraud. The also haven't described how he was implicated in that crime.

Officer Rodger Davis investigated a report of a car burglary on April 2, at about 8:40 a.m., police said. The officer found someone had entered an unlocked car and taken a wallet and GPS, police said. Police reportedly learned a short time later the card was used at a local convenience store and other businesses.

Davis viewed the in-store video at one of the businesses and identified Kenneth Mulligan, 25, of Jefferson Township, as the person using the card, police said. Mulligan was later arrested and charged with credit card fraud and theft, as well as possession of marijuana. He was released pending a municipal court appearance.

According to a press statement from Jefferson Township police, as part of the investigation into the matter, Detectives Rich Geib and Joe Kratzel obtained information about a man who was later identified as Chapman. Chapman was arrested and charged with credit card fraud and theft—and then with the knifepoint robbery.  Police did not say how they obtained the information regarding Chapman, or if the two alleged crimes are related in any way.
