National Night Out Coming Next Week

Police to participate for eighth year.

National Night Out is coming up on Aug. 2, and the Jefferson Township police department will again be participating. What follows is information sent out by the department:

The Jefferson Township police department will be participating this year in the National Night Out Program sponsored by National Association of Town Watch. The program takes place at the Jefferson Township Municipal Building on Tuesday Aug. 2 from 6 - 9 p.m.

This will be the eighth year Jefferson has participated in the event.  This year the entire community will be highlighted. In previous years the event was held at locations in Milton and a location in Lake Hopatcong.

The event is primarily designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations. 

Jefferson Township Fire Co. 1 and 2 as well as the Milton First Aid Squad, Jefferson Rescue Squad and the Jefferson Township Fire Prevention Bureau, Jefferson Township Office of Emergency Management and Municipal Alliance for a Drug Free Community will be participating and will have equipment on display.

A cookout will be provided by the police department in which hot dogs, soda and chips will be available as long as supplies last, as well as activities for kids. Crime prevention material, firearms display and other displays will be available. The Police Departments Community Policing Unit and bicycle patrol officers will be participating and tours of the police department will be held. 

The event is open to all residents of the Township and everyone is encouraged to turn on any outside lights in support.
