Pedestrian Killed on Route 15 in Lake Hopatcong

Man pronounced dead at scene Thursday evening, cops say.

A man was struck and killed while walking alongside Route 15 in Lake Hopatcong Thursday night, Jefferson Police said.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was walking on the southbound side of the highway around 6 p.m. by the Getty Gas Station in Lake Hopatcong when a man driving an Optimum cable van struck him on the side of the road, Capt. Eric Wilsusen said.

The accident originally shut down both southbound lanes, Wilsusen said. At 7 p.m., traffic was being diverted to the left lane.

That poor man was my brother in law. What has been left for the kids and wife left behind. What to say he was returning from work.

The family had just moved to NJ from another state for a better living and hoping brighter future for their kids. My brother in law was a hardworker who was the only provider for his family.
