Polce: Robbery Attempt at Getty Station

An attempted robbery took place at the Getty gas station on Rt. 15 South in Lake Hopatcong on Saturday afternoon, according to police. Note: Police have since disclosed the incident resulted in the gas station owner's death..
Jefferson police and the Morris County Crime Investigation Division are on currently on the scene, and awaiting the arrival of the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, said Capt. Eric Wilsusen of the Jefferson Township Police Department.
One lane of Rt. 15 South has been closed on and off since approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and the sporadic closure will continue "for several hours," Wilsusen said.
