Police: One Dead, One Injured in Rt. 15 Accident

Rt. 15 North closed for three hours.

One woman died and another man was injured in an accident at the intersection of Route 15 North and Berkshire Valley Road on Tuesday morning, police said. 

 Police investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by Lorraine Kohut, 80, of Convent Station was traveling east on Berkshire Valley Road when it struck a vehicle operated by Shawn Sweeney, 36 of Hackettstown, who was traveling north on Route 15.

Kohut was transported to St. Clare's Hospital in Dover, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Sweeney was taken to St. Clare’s and was treated for moderate non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Traffic Officer Det. Stephen Muller responded, along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Jefferson Township Fire Co. No. 2 responded with its Jaws of Life, along with the Jefferson Rescue Squad.
