Police: Raccoon Island Hit With Break-Ins

Homes on Raccoon Island have been hit by alleged burglars, according to the Jefferson Township police.

“The island has mostly seasonal homes,” said police Captain Eric Wilsusen. “It seems the homes have been vandalized before the summer season began.”

  • On May 12, someone pried open a shed door at a residence. Nothing appeared to have been taken, police said.
  • Also on May 12, a resident reported that someone entered his residence through unlocked kitchen window and removed a lap top computer. Two full gasoline cans were also missing from the front of the house, police said.
  • Again on May 12, a resident reported damage to his home. A rear door was damaged and the residence appeared to have been entered, though nothing appeared to be missing, police said.
  • On May 19, a resident reported that someone entered the residence by prying open door. A machete was removed. The resident reported that someone cut the lock off the garage and removed a ratchet set ad a gas can. In addition, police said, someone entered the home and removed a 24-inch TV, and then removed two radios from two separate boats. Three other residents reported windows pried open, although nothing appeared to be missing, police said.
  • On May 20, a resident reported that sometime between May 18 and 20, someone entered his pontoon boat by cutting the shrinkwrap. Police said nothing appeared to be missing.
  • On May 25, a resident reported that a Sea Nymph rowboat was taken from his property sometime between April 13 and May 24.
  • On June 9, a resident reported that his residence had been entered, police said. The screen door had two small cuts in the material, and a hook fastener to the main door was unlocked, police said. The resident reported that a pair of Nikon binoculars was missing.
