Pot-Growing Business Uncovered in Jefferson Man's Attic, Police Say

Kevin Intravaia, 25, was allegedly growing four marijuana plants inside his East Shore Road home.

A Jefferson man was found growing plants of marijuana in his attic when officers arrived at the East Shore Road residence for a reported dispute last month, police said.

Kevin Intravaia, 25, was charged with simple assault, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within a school zone, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of growing paraphernalia.

Officers responded to the home, which is located within 1,000 feet of Briggs Elementary Schools, for an apparent dispute on Jan. 22.

Cpl. William Kropp noticed an open top dresser drawer and detected the smell of raw marijuana, Capt. Eric Wilsusen said.

Kropp found in the dresser green vegetation and several small plastic baggies used for packaging, Wilsusen said.

Four suspected marijuana plants in flower pots, a plastic baggie with green leafy vegetation, two grow/heat lights, several bags and bottles of plant food and fertilizer materials used to grow marijuana were found in the man's attic, Wilsusen said.

Intravaia was charged and released pending a municipal court appearance.
