Snowstorm Causes Minor Car Accidents, Cops Say

No injuries reported as drivers battle slippery road conditions Tuesday.

Jefferson Police said Tuesday's snowstorm caused several minor car accidents throughout the township.

Capt. Eric Wilsusen said a car was towed on Brady Road after a driver crashed and ended on top of a guard rail.

Another car on Mirror Place slid on its side as the driver was backing out of her driveway, Wilsusen said. Wilsusen said the Jefferson Fire Department was able to rescue the woman and she sustained no injuries.

Wilsusen said another car slid off Sparta Mountain Road, and was stuck towards the edge of a cliff.

"There are no guard rails up there, it's a pretty steep roadway," Wilsusen said. "A lot of turns, very narrow road. The car was half off the roadway."

Wilsusen said there were several other minor accidents throughout the day from about 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that involved cars sliding off the roads.

He said no injuries were reported in any of the accidents.

As of 5 p.m., Wilsusen said the road conditions are pretty clear, and plows will be out all night. He said there were no road closures as a result of Tuesday's storm.

All Jefferson schools remained open all day on Tuesday during the storm. All afterschool activities still went on, but evening activities were cancelled.
