Warming and Charging Stations Open Wednesday Morning

Residents can head to Jefferson Senior Center and fire house on Route 15 on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Police said they have set up two warming and charging centers in Jefferson Township on Wednesday morning for residents to escape their cold and dark homes from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The stations will be at Jefferson Township Fire Department Company No. 2 on Route 15 and Edison Road, and the Jefferson Township Senior Center located at 54 School House Road.

The stations will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to Capt. Eric Wilsusen.

As of Wednesday, Wilsusen said the township is 99 percent without power.

Wilsusen said that the state of emergency that was declared on Monday is still in effect, so he urges residents to use caution while driving.

He said that while no roads are completely closed as of Wednesday morning, but many roads have lanes partially closed.

Wilsusen said there was a traffic issue Wednesday morning on Ridge Road. Residents were traveling down Glen Road to Ridge Road to get to Route 23. He encourages residents to stay home and allow the workers more time to clear the roads.
