DPW Director Returning From Afghanistan Tour

Col. Jeff Elam will return to his job in Jefferson on April 1.

Jefferson Township’s department of public works director and township engineer will return from his year long tour in Afghanistan next week.

Business Administrator James Leach explained during Wednesday’s town council meeting that he has been in email contact with Col. Jeff Elam, who was working on engineering projects for the United States Army.

“[Elam] was demobilized from his actual operations center to a demobilization base several hundred miles south,” Leach said.

Elam will debrief next week and take some leave time before resuming his public works and engineer positions on April 1.

Leach said Elam looks forward to “hitting the ground running” and has already been hooked back into the township’s email system.

The business administrator said Elam will spend the time between his return stateside and statr date conferring with acting DPW head Ed Hack and Engineering Secretary Patty Romano getting up to speed.

“It’ll be good to have him back,” Leach said. “And I’m glad he made it through that ordeal safe."
