UPDATED: Jefferson Has Spent $48K+ on Storm So Far

800 Residents in Oak Ridge and Lake Hopatcong Should Have Power Today

Over 800 residents in the Oak Ridge and Lake Hopatcong areas should have power restored today, according to Jim Leach, Jefferson Township Administrator.

An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that Jefferson Twp. had spent $180K on the October storm. The correct amount is $48,081, however this does not include overtime costs for police personnel.

To date, the costs have been: $21,677 for DPW employee overtime, $15,970 in contractor fees, and $10,000 for the distribution of 150 tons of road salt.

The total budget for snow removal for the year is $300,000, said Leach.

Leach said he will have final totals on expenses incurred next week.

Leach, who was out of the area at the time the storm hit, said residents have offered positive comments on how the township handled the weather crisis.

"We did a great job with snow removal, but there were tons and tons of trees down and so we needed the fire department, road department, anybody and everybody to clear the trees—because until they are cleared, you can't plow," said Leach.

17 residents visited the warming center yesterdayset up at Camp Jefferson on Weldon Road, the township recreation facility, Leach said.

The center will be open until 5 p.m. today.

He said residents have also been showering at the Mahlon Dickerson Reservation area on Weldon Rd.
