No Change in State Aid to Township

Felter: There's no incentive to do things right.

will receive $2,086,787 in aid from the state’s coffers this year, the exact same amount the township received last year.  Township mayor Russell Felter said he is not surprised by this, but is somewhat disappointed.

We do a good job managing our money, and there seems to be no incentive to do things right,” Felter said. “The more you do things wrong, the more money the give you. You can apply for extraordinary aid, but there’s no reward for doing good. We pride ourselves on running the town well and we never seem to get anything for that.”

In addition, Felter said he’d like to see a slight change in Gov. Chris Christie’s tax relief priorities.

“I wish he (Christie) would focus more on property tax than on income tax relief.

I wish there could be direct relief to towns, giving us money that could only be used to lower the property tax rate, and not for any other purpose,” Felter said.
