Picatinny Shrapnel Victims Head Back to Court

Jefferson's Angle family lost cat after test material flew through home, landed on child's bed.

A federal judge has scheduled oral arguments to be heard May 29 regarding a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a Jefferson family whose cat died after shrapnel from Picatinny Arsenal shot through their home.

The Angle family, who filed suit in 2009 and asked for more than $4 million in damages from the United States, had their request rejected and was offered $7,386 is pushing forward with its recently amended complaint, and will be heard in U.S. District Court, according to a report on dailyrecord.com.

An investigation revealed an M107 projectile fragment flew beyond the hazardous zone for Picatinny’s testing area, crashing through the Angle family’s home, landing on a child’s bed and killing the family pet.

The new amount sought by the family is undisclosed, the report said.

Angle told the newspaper that since the incident, his wife has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and that listing his home to sell is virtually impossible, citing a stigma with the house as a result of the incident.
