Warming Centers, Charging Stations Now Open 24 Hours

Residents can stop by the fire house on Route 15 and Senior Center at any time.

The two warming centers and charging centers that opened on Wednesday morning will now be open 24 hours until Jefferson's power is restored, after police originally said the centers were only open until 5 p.m.

Residents of Jefferson can stop by the two centers at the Jefferson Township Fire Department Company No. 2 on Route 15 and Edison Road, and the Jefferson Township Senior Center located at 54 School House Road at any time of the day to warm up, grab a snack, or charge their phones.

Some of the food items to choose from are chips, granola bars and cookies. Theres also water, coffee, hot chocolate, and juice for residents. All items were provided by the Jefferson CERT Team, OEM, and firefighters.

Volunteers consisting of both adult and teen Jefferson CERT members and members Jefferson Resue Squad have been helping out at the centers all day.

CERT memeber Pamela Graham said that a couple of hundred residents have been coming in throughout the day Wednesday.

Residents are welcome to stay as long as they need, Graham said, although there are no bedding or shower facilities availalble.

Residents can also head over to the county shelter at Mennen Arena if they want to sleep, although there are no shower facilities there either.

Both warming centers and charging stations will be open for 24 hours until power is restored.
