Departing School Board Member, Asst. Superintendent Receive Warm Sendoff

The term of BOE member Cynthia Scott expires Dec. 31, and Assistant Superintendent of Schools Mary Thornton is retiring after 14 years in the district.

Monday night's Jefferson Township Board of Education meeting was the final one for member Cynthia Scott and Assistant Superintendent Mary Thornton, AIM Jefferson reported.

Scott, whose second term expires Dec. 31, opted to refrain from running for office last November. Thornton will retire effective Dec. 31, ending her 14-year tenure in the township. Board members presented their colleague Scott, who spent a period as president, with a plaque, and each offered words of praise, thanks and farewell to both women.

Thornton will be succeeded as assistant superintendent by Jeanne Howe, principal of Jefferson Township Middle School. JTMS is getting a new principal, former vice principal Kevin Lipton.
