Jefferson Schools Chief Resigns

Dr. Kathaleen Fuchs will retire effective July 1.

The Jefferson Township Board of Education accepted the resignation of superintendent Dr. Kathaleen Fuchs at its regular meeting on Monday night. The resignation, which was added into the agenda after the board's closed session, is for the purpose of retirement, and is effective on July 1, 2012.

Board president Ronald Smith said he would like to see the board have a new superintendent in place by the end of March 2012.

“I don't want the superintendent search to interfere with the school board and budget election in April,” he said.

Smith said he would appoint a committee comprised of some board members and other members of the community, and then engage the services of a search firm.

“We will give the search firm our criteria and ask them to present us with a certain amount of candidates that we will interview,” Smith said.
