JTHS Sports Teams, Coaches Earn Fall Sportsmanship Honors

High school Athletic Director John DiColo says the awards show the importance the district places on athletes staying positive, following rules, welcoming opponents and showing respect to all.

Winter sports are getting started at Jefferson Township High School, which makes this the time to distribute awards for the 2013 athletic seasons that recently ended, AIM Jefferson reported.

Three fall-season JTHS teams earned the Sportsmanship Award, which is voted on by head coaches from opposing high schools with ballots tallied by Athletic Director John DiColo: The boys cross country, girls cross country and boys soccer squads were all honored for being good sports.

Also winning recognition was Jefferson head field hockey coach Danielle Ryan, who was one of two coaches in the area to receive an Outstanding Sportsmanship Award from the Northwest Chapter 1 Field Hockey Officials Association.

DiColo said the awards show that area schools take sportsmanship and character education seriously.
