Lady Falcons One Step Closer to State Title

Jefferson defeats Old Tappan 63-43.

The Jefferson Lady Falcons are one step closer to a state title with a 63-43 victory over Old Tappan in the semi-finals of the NJSIAA North Section 1 Group 3 basketball tournament on Friday. Jefferson gained the top seed in the tournament and, in addition to Old Tappan, has defeated Paramus and Bergenfield. The Lady Falcons will play on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at against Teaneck for the state sectional title.

Imani Brown led all scorers tonight with 20 points, followed by Kristen Swerzenski with 13.

“I just penetrated a lot and shot when I was open,” Brown said. “I took whatever their defense gave me.”

“Imani really knows how to take over a game,” said Falcon head coach Jim O’Connor. “We really wore them (Old Tappan) down on the inside tonight. I thought the top of our 2/3 zone did a great job on them.”

And now it’s on to Teaneck.

“We know that we have to step up our game, because they are a very good team,” Swerzenski said. “We really don’t know what to expect, so we’ll just play our game and hope it works.”
