School Board to Bank Extra State Aid

Money will be saved for the 2012-2013 school year.

The has elected to bank the additional $531,418 it received in state aid for use in the 2012-2013 school year.

. The sum that Jefferson received is double what it received earlier this year when the original state aid figures were revealed to schools.

The district had four choices, according to board business administrator Dorz Zeno: they could adopt a resolution to reduce the tax levy for the 2011-2012 school budget; allocate money for expenditures in the 2011-2012 school year; bank the money for 2012-2013, or bank the money for 2013-2014.

“If we’re financially stable now, and it seems that we are, I say we bank the money for next year,” said board member Robert Feldmann. “It’s nice to know that it will be available if we need it.”

“We have a lot of things on our wish list for next year,” said board member Judy Castiglione. “Let’s save that money.”

Had the board chosen to allocate the funds for expenditures for the upcoming school year, it would have been required to submit a revised budget to the county superintendent for approval. Since it decided to save the funds for next school year, a revised budget is not required.
