School Board to Discuss Insurance Changes at Monday Meeting

Premiums have "increased tremendously" according to business administrator.

The district will join the e School Alliance Insurance Fund (SAIF) that will handle the following:

  • Package - property, boiler and machinery, general and auto liability, environmental
  • Impairment liability (includes $5M excess general and auto liability)
  •  Excess liability  
  •  School leaders professional liability.

“Due to some issues the district has faced over the past several years, our insurance premiums have gone up tremendously,” said business administrator Dora Zeno. “We believe joining this fund is in the best interest of the district.”

Also on Monday’s agenda as motions for approval on second reading are new policies for random drug testing and rights of privacy and a new regulation on student drug testing, as well as new policies and regulations on pupil discipline and code of conduct.

The public portion of the meeting begins at 8 p.m. at the Board of Education office on Route 181 in Lake Hopatcong. There will be two opportunities for public comment, the first on agenda items only and the second on anything a resident may wish to discuss.
