Confident Computing at the Library

Learn to compute with confidence at the library.

Confident Computing at the Library

Although it is hard to believe, there was once a time when the ability to read was
considered unnecessary to a successful life. Today, the ability to read is essential to one’s success in life.

Just 25 years ago people could live well without being able to use a computer.  Today many people would argue that they could not survive without a computer. To test this hypothesis try and find a teenager who would willingly
forego using a computer for a week.

Whether we like it or not computers have become an integral part of daily
life.  At the library one of our goals is to increase people’s computing confidence.     We view computing confidently not only as an essential skill for everyday life, but necessary to making the best use of the library.

To help people develop their computing skills, the library offers computer classes throughout the year, usually on Friday mornings. This fall, we will offer on Fridays a class on learning to type with your computer (October) and a class on e-mail basics (November).

This fall we will also have computing classes in the evening. On the evenings of Monday, September 19, and September 26, the library will be offering a class intended for parents of students. The aim of these classes to assist parents
with using a computer so they can feel confident and comfortable helping their
children with school assignments. Our classes for parents will be followed by a set of classes on Thursday evenings in October and November on Word 2007.
These classes are intended for people who are using Word 2007 and wish
to increase their skills.

The common objective of all of these classes is to increase the participant’s
confidence and comfort with using a computer.

To sign-up for any of these classes visit the library’s web-site http://www.jeffersonlibrary.net, or call the library at 973-208-6245.
