Jeffersonlibrary.net - The New Edition

Jeffersonlibrary.net is redesigned

Each time the library redesigns its website it begins a new chapter in the library’s story.

Our very first website was home-made and hosted on a free server.  Back then the library’s ambition was to establish a place on the internet where people could find information about the library.

The second version of our website was intended to make many of the library’s services available remotely. We knew that more people would use the library if they could use our services from a home computer.

Sandy Cale and Christine O’Brien of the library staff have been working with Wolf von Bistram, our web designer and the manager of our web-site, on a redesign of the library website. Our goals for the redesign were to make the site accessible from tablet computers and smart phone, and to make it easier to find certain sections of the site. Previously if a person visited the library website using a device with a small screen, such as a tablet computer or a smart phone, many of its features could not be used. Also, if a person wanted to go to the library catalog or download material, they had to go three to four screens into the site.  The redesigned site addresses both of these problems.

The new edition of our web site is the library’s acknowledgement that many people are forsaking their laptop and desktop computers for smaller multipurpose devices that can be taken anywhere. With the redesign, the library can go anywhere you would take a smart phone or a tablet computer.  So this summer if you are at the beach and you spy the person next to you reading an  interesting book, you can easily use your smart phone or tablet computer to see if the library has that book.  Or, quite possibly, you can download an e-book or audio edition of the book, without ever leaving your blanket.

The re-designed library web-site will go live by June 10, 2012.  The library’s website’s address will not change.  It’s still www.jeffersonlibrary.net.  Please let us know what you think of the library’s new website design by e-mailing us at: jtpl@jeffersonlibrary.net.
