Jefferson offers Special Needs Soccer Program

Jefferson Township offers its fifth season of the Special Needs Soccer Program

The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its fifth Fall season of the Challenger Soccer program for special needs childrenParents of boys and girls ages 5 – 18 (or the completion of high school) with physical or mental challenges are invited to join this program.  Scott Luker, a resident of Jefferson Township, will return to manage the league.

The games will be played on the field of Camp Jefferson located at 81 Weldon Road in Lake Hopatcong with the first game scheduled to take place on Saturday September 17, 2011 at 10 am.

This program offers players the chance to participate in one of the most popular sports worldwide.  Participants will play with the same equipment and by the same rules as in any soccer game with the exception that they have the option to use the “buddy” system for assistance.  Every player on the roster plays in the game, and no score is kept.  Once again, thanks to fundraising efforts, the normal $25 registration fee (jersey, cap, and award) will be waived for this season.
