Jefferson High Football One Win Shy of Conference Title

If the Falcons defeat Kittatinny Saturday, the formerly win-challenged team walks away with its first Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference Freedom Division title.

It all comes down to Saturday for the Jefferson Township High School varsity football team, the Star-Ledger reported.

Should the 6-2 Falcons end of victorious after their matchup with Kittatinny Regional High School's Cougars, the hometown boys will have earned their first championship title in the Freedom Division of the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference.

But first, the players will have to shake their surprising 40-14 trouncing last Friday at the hands of  the Hoboken High School Redwings. According to the article, Falcons star quarterback J.R. Reese only achieved 187 yards of total offense and the Redwings successfully halted Jefferson Township’s rushing, even sacking Reese nine times.

The team has shown that it is up to meeting challenges. In the past three seasons, it has climbed to become a contender. Reese is certainly a leader and has set a good example for his teammates: Just this season, NJ.com reports he has thrown for 1,246 yards, rushed for 891, scored a total of 24 touchdowns, leading Jefferson to its best performance in five years—and perhaps to a conference or even a state title.
