Swim Team Registration Is Open

The following comes from the Lake Forest Swim Team:

As the days grow longer and the weather gets warmer, thoughts are starting to once again turn to summer fun, and of course that includes swimming. The Lake Forest Swim Team is a fun and competitive team which competes in the North Jersey Regional Lake League. The Vikings are based at the Lake Forest Yacht Club on beautiful Lake Hopatcong. By all accounts this team is best described as a recreational team with a competitive spirit.

Open to all swimmers between the ages of 5 and 18, the Lake Forest Swim Team strives to foster a love of swimming while providing a fun safe way to keep kids active both physically and socially during the summer months. Not only do our coaches focus on stroke development and individual success, they also work hard to encourage team spirit while never losing sight of the importance of having fun. How dedicated are our coaches? Dedicated enough to allow the team to toss them into the lake after each and every win!

And yes, we do win! Our team has maintained an impressive .700 winning percentage over the last ten years, and has turned out a number of swimmers who have earned college scholarships and have been recruited by colleges because of the skills they’ve honed at Lake Forest. The regular meet season begins in June and continues into August. Many of our swimmers qualify for and participate in post season championship meets. The regular season consists of ten meets, 5 home and 5 away. League competitors include teams from Denville, Shongum Lake, Roxbury, Flanders Valley, Lake Shawnee, Randolph Park, Park Lake in Rockaway, Cranberry Lake, Mendham and Shore Hills.

In addition to weekday and evening practices and Wednesday evening and Saturday morning meets, our swimmers and their families are also invited to participate in a number of out of water events such as, water park trips to the Land of Make Believe or Mountain Springs, a Pre-meet Pasta Party, Bagel Mornings, Movie Nights, and a 12 and up Triathlon followed by ice cream sundaes. The season concludes with an awards banquet held at the yacht club.

2012 Registration will be held at the Lake Forest Yacht Club, 35 Yacht Club Drive, Lake Hopatcong 07849, on Sunday April 29th from 3:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Swimmers do not need to be members of the yacht club nor residents of Lake Forest for your children to join. Please be prepared to fill out registration forms, or if you prefer, you may go to the team website http://www.lfyc.org/ and click on the LFYC Swim Team tab to download and complete the necessary forms in advance. There will also be sample swim suits and articles of team clothing available to try on. The Lake Forest Swim Team, family fun in the sun, life skills, and a great way to get the most out of summer!
