Hundreds Needed to Volunteer for Lake Hopatcong Cleanup

The Lake Hopatcong Foundation needs a few good men and women who care about the lake.

Care about Lake Hopatcong? You have an opportunity to prove your love: The Lake Hopatcong Foundation needs people to volunteer for its November community lake cleanup, the Daily Record reports. The rain or shine event takes place Saturday, Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to noon to 12 p.m.

The cleanup, which will focus on areas closest to Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mt. Arlington and Roxbury, occurs in conjunction with the upcoming five-year drawdown of Lake Hopatcong, and will be conducted along the bottom of the lake. The foundation is trying to obtain access from at least 30 different lakefront locations, the article said. Morris and Sussex Counties, the Morris County Park Commission, Hopatcong State Park, and the Musconetcong Watershed Association will be involved in the cleanup as well.

For the cleanup, the organization is seeking to recruit teams of five to 10 people and a captain for each Lake Hopatcong access point. To volunteer, sign up online. Anyone willing to offer a lakefront access point for the cleanup can contact the Lake Hopatcong Foundation’s Donna Macalle-Holly at 973-663-2500 or donna@lakehopatcongfoundation.org.
