Annual Santa Tour, Lake Hopatcong UMC Fundraiser for Ginnie's House This Week

Monkeydoodles' Open Play Day and exploring Jackie Kennedy Onassis' favorite poems also on tap this week in Jefferson.

  • The Jefferson Arts Committee's Community Band holds rehearsal Monday at Jefferson Township High School, 1010 Weldon Road in Oak Ridge. The session lasts from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and is held in the JTHS band room.

  • The JTHS Ski Team Boosters are gearing up for a new, snowy season. The group meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the JTHS Senior Cafeteria.

  • It's the Jefferson Arts Committee's Community Chorus' time to practice. Rehearsals take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. in JTHS' band and chorus rooms.

  • Experience a little bit of Camelot Wednesday, when the Jefferson Library presents "A Taste of Poetry: The Best-Loved Poems of Jacquqeline Kennedy Onassis." This event for adults features some of the favorite poems of the former First Lady that were selected and published in book form by her daughter Caroline Kennedy. The free event takes pace Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at 1031 Weldon Road.
  • It's too cold to play outdoors, so how do little ones get the activity they need during the winter? Monkeydoodles Playroom offers Open Play Day on Thursday this week and next (Dec. 19): Kids between the ages of one and five are invited to come, explore, play and burn off their youthful energy. The cost is $10 per child and $8 for each additional sibling. Get more info by calling Monkeydoodles at 973-810-2522. The play center is at 832 Rt. 15 South in Lake Hopatcong.

  • Lake Hopatcong United Methodist Church hosts a Saturday fundraiser to benefit Ginnie's House, a children's advocacy center in Newton. The night will feature a coffeehouse-style open mic performance along with an art faux-auction. All monies raised will help provide holiday gifts for the children at Ginnie's; any remaining funds will be used to purchase gift cards to assist their custodial families. All musicians and/or spoken word artists of any talent level are invited to perform at the Open Mic. You can also participate in the "auction" and faux-bid $20 for real artwork produced by Ginnie's House. Free coffee and beverages will be offered; baked goods will be available for sale. The church is at 520 Howard Blvd. in Lake Hopatcong. The show starts Saturday at 4 p.m.

  • Santa Claus will travel through J-Town, thanks to the Jefferson Township Fire Company #1 in Milton. Starting Saturday at 4 p.m. , St. Nick wends his way through the town for the Annual Santa Tour! Fire trucks will tour with Monsieur Kringle through Dec. 17, and there will be make-up days reserved for Dec. 18 and 19. On the weekends Santa will begin his journey at 4 p.m. On weekdays, he starts at 6 p.m. No visits will take place after 9 p.m. All kids are welcome and there will be treats from the big guy for dogs too. You will be alerted to Santa’s approach by the sound of the fire truck’s sirens; parents are asked to stay with their kids at the nearest cross street.
