Jefferson Flu Clinic, MOMS Club Playdate, JTHS 40th Reunion This Week

Mayor and council meet and a belly dance class, scout award nominations deadline and various community organization meetings also highlight upcoming happenings.

This should be a busy week in and around Jefferson Township.


The Stanhope MOMS Club hosts a playdate this week for stay-at-home mothers and their kids. The offering is scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. The location is not published publicly for the protection of the vulnerable people involved—to find out where the playdate will be held and more information about the at-home moms' support group, send email to moms.24x7@gmail.com.

Looking for a new way to get fit or to discover a side of yourself you have never before seen? Check out a Belly Dance Class for the Modern Woman. Ronnie's Dance School in nearby Andover offers a new beginner-to-intermediate course in the exotic art form Tuesdays from 6:40-7:40 p.m. The class covers belly dancing moves—including undulations, shimmies, figure eights, snake arms and more—that are great for toning the body, building strength and gaining flexibility. The program is ongoing and you must re-register. The Jefferson Arts Committee's Community Chorus holds rehearsals Monday at Jefferson Middle School. The singers will work from 7:30-10 p.m. The school is at 1000 Weldon Road in Oak Ridge.

As personal experience taught us last week, cold and flu season is here: The time to get vaccinated is now. Which makes Wednesday a day of note in Jefferson, as the township offers a Flu Vaccine Clinic for residents. From 2-8 p.m., men and women ages 18 and up are welcome to protect themselves against flu—a serious illness that potentially can kill. The cost is $15.  (Medicare Part B is reimbursable. 
Medicare HMO is not accepted as payment.) You must reserve your spot: Call 973-663-0700. The Jefferson Township Public Health Center is at 57 Minnisink Road in Lake Hopatcong.

Jefferson's Cub Scout Pack 49, Den 9 comes together Wednesday afternoon to make strong men out of good boys. The group meets at 2:45 p.m. at White Rock Elementary School, 2 Francine Place in Oak Ridge. 


The Jefferson Township Boys Socccer Association hosts a Pasta Dinner at its meeting Wednesday. The event kicks off at 5:15 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 1010 Weldon Road in Oak Ridge.


Friday is the nomination deadline for those interested in the Scout Scholar Athlete Awards. The Patriots' Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America is looking for young men and women who work to achieve academic success while practicing healthy living for the prize. Scouts in grades 10-12 or their first year of college and who had an average high school grade point average of 3.0 are eligible to be nomintated by teachers, coaches, scoutmasters or fellow scouts. Interested scouts must be in 10th-12th grade or college freshman and have an average GPA of 3.0 thoughout their high school career. Winners will be recognized at the 3rd Annual Scout Scholar Athlete Award Breakfast on Sunday, Dec. 8. The Jefferson Township High School Class of 1973 40th Reunion will be held Friday night. Classmates will gather at Casa Bianca on Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson from 7-11 p.m. The cost of $50 per person includes a buffet dinner, cash bar and DJ—plus you get the added benefit of seeing how your old pals look all grown up. For more information, send email to laurieo1973@sbcglobal.net. 


Jefferson's Brownie Troop 4937 holds its meeting this week on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The gathering takes place at White Rock School.
