Parents and Community Head Back to School This Week

Also, a Lake Hopatcong Foundation fundraiser and a cancer screening for women.

In the surest sign yet that summer for all intents and purposes is really most sincerely dead, schools across Jefferson Township are back in session and humming right along with student and community activities. This promises to be a busy week on the educational front:

It's time to strike up the band, the Jefferson Arts Committee Community Band, that is. The group meets for rehearsals Monday from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Jefferson Township High School. JTHS is also the place for this week's Band Parents Meeting, which takes place Thursday at 7 p.m.

Brownie Troop 4937 holds its meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. at White Rock School.

Jefferson Township Middle School is the site for Jefferson Arts Committee Community Chorus rehearsals. Members will sing out, whether or not their name is Louise, beginning at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday at 7 p.m., the middle school hosts the first Parent Teacher Association meeting of the 2013-14 school year.

Of course, there are happenings outside of school too. Women are invited to a Jefferson Township Health Department Female Cancer Screening, which is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Public Health Center, 57 Minnisink Road in Lake Hopatcong.  This screening includes pelvic and breast exam, pap smear, blood pressure check, occult blood test (test for blood in stool), mammography referrals (if eligible), health education and counseling. The fee is $20 and you must be a town resident age 18 or over. You must have an appointment to attend: call 973-663-0700.
The Lake Hopatcong Fundraiser at Hudson Farm Club is on tap for Tuesday. The Lake Hopatcong Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lake will host a clay shoot fundraiser on the 3,800-acre grounds of Hudson Farm Club in Andover at noon. Trained instructor will be on hand and close by for novices. Shooters and hikers will enjoy a light lunch, a 100-clay sporting course or a guided Audubon hike, plus dinner with cocktails.
