Blessid Union of Souls Brings '90s Rock to the Newton Theatre

Rock fans like them for them: Blessid Union of Souls, featuring singer-songwriter Eliot Sloan, plays Newton this weekend.

Yes, we spelled it correctly: Blessid Union of Souls, the 1990s hitmakers from Ohio, and its songwriter and leader Eliot Sloan have no problem bucking spelling rules—and, man, can this group rock the house. The band has scored eight Top 10 hits since its founding—if you're a fan, you surely know "I Believe" and "Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me for Me)."

Over the nearly 20 years of its existence, the band has made its mark on the public consciousness and pop culture, not only through its energetic radio hits, but through being featured on the gold-selling Carole King tribute album Tapestry Revisited alongside diverse artists including Rod Stewart, Faith Hill, Amy Grant and the Bee Gees; appearing on the double-platinum soundtrack for the film “Pokemon: The First Movie”; and performances on television's “Cold Case,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Live with Regis,” “Good Morning, America,” “Top of the Pops,” “All My Children” and VH1. They've been everywhere.

And now, the band returns by popular demand to our neck of the woods. See Blessid Union rock out in the flesh at the Newton Theatre in Newton Saturday at 8 p.m. with opener Ciro Patti Jr.  Tickets range from $49-$69 and may be purchased online. The venue is at 83 Spring St. in Newton.
