I joined 6 months ago and have never been so committed to a work out program as I am at Black Bear. The owners and staff make you feel like family ... My husband and I go at least 3 times a week, I feel better and play golf better...thanks Black Bear..Mo C.

A friend of mine bought a gift certificate for a 3 month membership to Black Bear at a charity auction and gave it to me as a present. Granted the GC was almost 2 years old, but it did not have an expiration date on it. I brought it in to redeem and the girl at the counter said she would honor it but insisted I pay a $39 enrollment fee. It took me ten minutes of arguing to explain to her that I was not enrolling, merely trying to use a gift that was given to me. She did not seem to understand that it is a ridiculous policy to charge enrollment fees to the recipient of a gift. She finally let me work out without paying the fee, but the owner called me the next day and immediately copped an attitude saying that they wouldn't honor the GC because it wasn't originally bought by me. Never mind that it's a GIFT certificate, meant for GIFTING. The gym had no record of who it was sold to, but because I happened to mention how I acquired it they used that to deny me. (Guess it would have paid to just lie about how I got it). They also said they "usually" have a 1 year expiration date on their GCs, even though there was nothing about that on the GC. Bottom line is that I felt the owners very rudely invented reasons not to honor my gift certificate so that they could charge me their ridiculous fees. I would never pay those prices for a gym half full of outdated equipment. A rip off, and the staff is rude. I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
