Diplomas were awarded to 599 Drew University graduates Saturday on the school's campus in Madison. Michael Bressman, communications associate and special assistant to the president at Drew, shared this account of the ceremony. Drew University’s 145th annual Commencement was held Saturday, marking the graduation of its Class of 2013. The open-air ceremony, which began at 10:30 a.m., was held on the rear lawn of Mead Hall, Drew’s iconic 19th-century campus centerpiece. With University President Vivian A. Bull presiding, graduates heard from keynote speaker Frank Occhigrosso, an acclaimed scholar of Shakespeare who retired this spring after 43 years on the Drew faculty. Jefferson Township Middle School has announced its honor roll list for the third marking period in the 2012-13 school year. High honors and honors were doled out to students in grades six through eight by the school for achieving exemplary grades. So good, in fact, the Oak Ridge resident and County College of Morris student was recently awarded a scholarship for a two-year student from the Art Directors Club of New Jersey (ADCNJ) for the quality of his design work. Seventy-five student portfolios were submitted this year from two and four-year students, according to County College of Morris. The awards were given based on the creativity and functionality of the work. “It’s a great honor for both Andrew and the graphic design department at CCM,” said Stephen Longo, professor and special projects leader of the graphic design program at CCM in a statement. Swearing study ranked the most and least courteous states in the country.
Third place? We couldn’t do better than #&@$ing third place? New Jersey residents were beaten out by Ohio and Maryland in a survey ranking individuals most likely to drop swear words on a complete stranger during a phone conversation. On the flip side, analysis by the Marchex Institute found that Washington, Massachusetts and Arizona topped the list of state residents least likely to lose their cool. Marchex examined more than 600,000 calls over a year that were placed by consumers to businesses in 30 different industries. The mobile advertising company also ranked the most courteous states: South Carolina, North Carolina and Maryland. And the least courteous states: Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Indiana.
