Richard Rome, 85, Dies

Born and raised in Jefferson Township.

Richard R. Rome, 85, passed away on Aug. 19 at Milford Manor Nursing Home, West Milford, NJ. He was born on Oct. 20,1926 in Milton, NJ to Jenny (nee Paulison) Rome and Alfred Rome and was raised in Jefferson Township. Mr. Rome proudly served in the US Army during WWII. He was a chartered member of the American Legion Post 423 as well as a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 564 in Jefferson Twp. Mr. Rome married Emma Marie (nee Beardslee) in 1947and together they raised their children Hazel and Richard. Mr. Rome is survived by his wife Emma, his son Richard Rome and his wife Su Ann of Jefferson Township, his daughter Hazel VanZandt and her husband Wayne of High Point, NC.; his five grandchildren Jeremiah and Jonathan Rome, both of Jefferson …

Nicole Glazewski, 38, Dies

Wife of Jefferson Township Police Officer Chet Glazewski.

Nicole M. Glazewski passed away peacefully on Aug. 14 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was 38. Born in Denville, she was raised in Rockaway Borough and moved to the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson in 1997. Nicole was a Morris Catholic High School Graduate and Graduated top her class from Seton Hall University (Summa Cum Laude) with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. Nicole worked at Advanced Housing of Newton as a MICA Counselor/Social Worker. She previously worked as an office manager at Daytop of Mendham, then as a Daytop Abuse Counselor following earning her Master’s Degree and worked for over seven years with the US Customs Service, working in fines, penalties and forfeiture. She also had worked for a short time as a …

OBITUARY: Margaret Deermount Bradley

Antique boat lover.

Margaret Deermount Bradley “Marge”, 71, of Lake Hopatcong, NJ passed away on Aug. 11 in St. Clare’s Medical Center, Dover, NJ. Born in Allentown, Pa she lived in Basking Ridge and summered many years in Ocean City before moving to Lake Hopatcong 15 years ago. She was a member of the Waterloo United Methodist Church, Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club and the Antique Boat Club of NJ. She was predeceased by husbands Roger Deermount in 1995 and L. Craig Bradley in 2011. Surviving are her children Cory Deermount and his wife Sherry of Apollo Beach, FL and Kathleen Muzyl of Franklin, NJ.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, William, Jason, and Jistien. OBITUARY: Raymond Polakoski

Avid Yankee fan.

Raymond R. Polakoski passed away on Aug. 11 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was 91. Born and raised in Jersey City, he moved to the Lake Hopatcong section of Jefferson Township in 1981. Ray retired from the Jersey City Police Department as Lieutenant in 1981 after 33 years. He was a WW II Army Veteran and was awarded the American Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Ray was a life member of American Legion Post 245, Lake Hopatcong and was Past Commander and served as Chaplain and Adjutant. He was a parishioner of Star of the Sea Church, Lake Hopatcong, a member of the Wharton F. O. P. Lodge 24 and served on the board of the East Shore Property Home Owners Association. 'N.J.'s Historian' Wrote Over 50 Books About State

John T. Cunningham died last week at age 96; visiting hours scheduled for Monday in Madison.

John T. Cunningham, a popular New Jersey historian who wrote more than 50 books about the state's past, some of which were used in grade-school classrooms and turned into award-winning documentaries, died Thursday. He was 96. Visiting hours are scheduled for Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison. A memorial service for Cunningham is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Morristown United Methodist Church, 50 S. Park Place, Morristown. Cunningham was raised in Mendham and graduated from Morristown High School in 1932. Devoted wife, mother, grandmother.

Linda L. Meyer, 68, of Oak Ridge, passed away on May 28.  She was born in Franklin, NJ to Frieda (nee Zoller) Coursen and Theodore Coursen. Linda married William H. Meyer in 1964 and together they raised their daughter Sharon. Mrs. Meyer was employed at Picatinny Arsenal as an administrative officer. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church at Newfoundland and served on many committees within the parish. Mrs. Meyer will best be remembered for the love she had for her family, especially her cherished grandchildren. Mrs. Meyer is survived by her beloved husband William H. OBITUARY: Emil Babich, World War II Vet

Enjoyed skiing and traveling.

Emil S. Babich, 87, of Milton, NJ, passed away at his home with his family by his side on May 19. He was born in Ridgefield Park to Elena (nee Picinich) Babich and Biagio Babich. Mr. Babich was a WWII veteran proudly serving in the US Coast Guard as a motor machinist Mate. He was very active with the US Coast Guard Ship, USCGC Eagle and was assigned to the original crew in 1945 to outfit and sail this ship from Germany to New London, CT as a prize of war. Mr. Babich was employed for many years at Picatinny Arsenal as a mechanical engineer. He volunteered much of his time as a Leader with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 149. Obituary: Stephen Leyden, Avid Mets & Jets Fan

Oak Ridge resident was husband and father of three.

Stephen A. Leyden, 51, of Oak Ridge, passed away on April 30. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Regina (nee Power) Leyden and Arthur Leyden. Mr. Leyden married Marlene (nee Petty) in 1987 and together they raised their three children. He worked as a computer network manager for many years. Mr. Leyden was an adult Scout Leader with Troop 151, and also an assistant coach for soccer and baseball. He will best be remembered as an avid Jets and Mets fan, as well as a history enthusiast, particularly WWII. Mr. Leyden was predeceased by his mother in 2000, his father in 2002 and his father-in-law Henry Petty in 1988. Joel Headley, Guitar Afficionado

Joel Warren Headley, 24, died at home unexpectedly on April 17.  Joel was born in Denville and lived his whole life in the Milton section of Jefferson Township. He was a 2006 graduate of Jefferson Township High School. He attended Bloomsburg University. Joel worked as a technician for C & R Audio Visual in Wharton, NJ. He is survived by his loving parents, Bruce and Susan, his brother, Ryan and his wife, Amanda, his sister, Erin, his brother, Adam, his nephew, Benjamin, and was the beloved grandson of Elwood and Charlotte Headley.
