New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.
The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. Jefferson softball dismisses West Milford in opening round of playoffs.
Melissa Jurkiewicz provided seven innings of one-run ball with just enough support to help push the number six seed Jefferson Falcons softball team through to the second round of the NJSIAA playoffs Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons beat number 11 seed West Milford 3-1, according to nj.com, in the North 1, Group 3 opening round, and will face Demarest on Thursday afternoon. West Milford could muster just five hits and an earned run against the Falcons, who, in turn, posted seven hits and got runs batted in from Anna Carslon and Caitlyn Dougherty, nj.com reported. Jurkiewicz struck out seven in the complete game effort.

Jefferson dropped opening round game to Mt. Olive Monday.
Despite entering Monday's competition as the higher seed, the Jefferson Falcons dropped the opening round of the NJSIAA playoffs to Mt. Olive, 2-1. Despite seven innings of two-run ball behind Joe Nadler and Evan Weigmann, the Falcons could only produce one run, which came off the bat of Nadler, according to nj.com. Jefferson went 18-11 on the season. No. 12 seed Mt. Olive moves on to the North 1, Group 3 quarterfinals to face off against No. 5 Demarest on Friday.

Jets running back Mike Goodson was sent to a Morris County jail following his arrest on drug and weapons charges in Denville Friday. Goodson, 25, was the passenger in a GMC Yukon stopped in the left center lane of I-80 West when a tow truck came upon them and called 911 early Friday morning, according to multiple reports. The tow truck driver reportedly was concerned about the intoxicated condition in which he found Goodson and the driver of the Yukon. Goodson was transported to Saint Claire’s Hospital in nearby Boonton and eventually charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun, and possession of a hollow-point bullet, according to ESPN. Sina, ranked as the 23rd best point guard in the nation entering college in 2013, had previously committed to playing at Northwestern University, was released from the school’s program by request when the team fired its head coach, Bill Carmody in March. Once he was free of his obligation from the school, Sina began being courted by Alabama, who initially tried recruiting the Gil St. Bernard’s standout in 2012, Indiana, and Seton Hall. Two squads have weekend of winning.
The first weekend of April won’t be one to forget any time soon for the Northern Elite gymnasts. Two teams, made up of gymnasts from Long Valley, Hackettstown, Mt. Olive, Sparta and Roxbury, made a name for themselves at a state and national competition, bringing home some heavy hardware. The Northern Elite Wildcats All Star Junior team competed in Ocean City, Maryland on April 6 and 7 at the annual National Reach the Beach Competition. Following flawless performances, the team was named National Champions, which earned them a spot in the U.S. Finals in Virginia Beach in May. The Level 7 gymnastics team of Northern Elite Gymnastics and Cheer in Flanders also competed that weekend, this time at Starbound Gymnastics in Vineland, New Jersey. …
