Boat Crashed by Drunk Jefferson Man, Cops Say

35-year-old arrested after allegedly striking another boat numerous times with his own boat.

A 35-year-old Jefferson Township man was arrested Jan. 24 after he allegedly rammed a docked boat with a boat of his own while drunk, Jefferson Police Capt. Eric Wilsusen said. According to a report on NJ.com, Jefferson Police Officers Rodger Davis and Tim Hecht responded to the area of Chincopee Road near the ferry last week on the report of a man screaming in a boat. By the time officers arrived, Harju's boat was on top of the other vessel, which was partially submerged, Wilsusen said to NJ.com. Harju faces numerous Title 12 (boating) violations including DWI and refusal to submit to a breath test and was later released pending an appearance in municipal court.

Cop Kicked During DWI Arrest, Police Say

Jefferson man charged with aggravated assault.

A Jefferson man was charged with aggravated assault, in addition to DWI, after police said he kicked an officer on Dec. 21. Dean Dooley, 54, was issued summonses on several motor vehicle violations in addition to being charged with DWI, assault and resisting arrest, according to a press release sent by Jefferson Township Police Capt. Eric Wilsusen. Wilsusen said Dooley was stopped on Route 15 by Cpl. Bryan Christie for allegedly driving erratically. "Cpl. Christie determined that the driver was possibly intoxicated and upon his arrest he became combative and kicked Cpl. Christie," Wilsusen said. Drunk Woman Crashed, Fled Scene, Police Say

Jefferson resident charged with DWI, leaving the scene and failure to report an accident.

A township woman was allegedly drunk when she crashed into a guard rail and fled the scene last month, Jefferson Police said. Robin Nilon, 40, was charged with DWI, leaving the scene and failure to report an accident, according to Capt. Eric Wilsusen. Police first responded on Nov. 16 to the McDonald's on Route 15 South on a report of an intoxicated female, Wilsusen said. Wilsusen said the officers saw Nilon's car parked crooked with a flat tire, a white streak down the side and a missing mirror. After further investigation, officers determined Nilon allegedly drove drunk and hit a guard rail on Route 15 North before she went to McDonald's, Wilsusen said. Drunk Boater Crashed Into Vessel, Police Say

Incident occurred near Pavinci's on Saturday night, according to authorities.

A drunk man crashed his boat into another vessel in the River Styx cove area of Lake Hopatcong near Pavinci’s Italian Grill on Saturday night, according to Hopatcong police. Police said Lawrence Lohr, 44, of Budd Lake, refused to take an alcohol breath test after they found him on his boat at the crash site. Police said they received a report of a crash near the River Styx bridge just before midnight and found the boats about 1,500 feet into the cove in front of Pavinci’s. Officers used a civilian boat from Johnny’s Marina to get to the vessels after the State Police Marine Division said it did not have a boat on the lake at the time and estimated it would be an hour until they could get to the site. DWI Checkpoints This Weekend

Goal is to cut down number of drunk drivers and prevent crashes.

Drivers beware: there will be Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) checkpoints this weekend in Jefferson Township, according to Morris County prosecutor Robert Bianchi.   The Prosecutor’s Office received a County DWI Enforcement Grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety Administration to conduct DWI checkpoints at various locations throughout the county. It is designed to establish checkpoints in cooperation with the Morris County Municipal Police Departments at various locations throughout the county.
