New Firefighters, Budget on Council's Agenda

The Jefferson Township Council presents their 2013 budget Wednesday.

This Wednesday's meeting of the Jefferson Township Mayor and Council will feature the 2013 budget and a pair of new firefighters on the agenda. The budget meeting is expected to begin a 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Jefferson Municipal Building before the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Megan K. Cottone and Ryan M. MacDonald are expected to be appointed to Fire Dept. No. 2 and the Library Board of Trustees is scheduled to give a presentation before the 2013 Budget is unveiled for the public.

Council, BOE Meetings, Author Gives Health Seminar This Week

A look at what to expect this week in Jefferson.

The Jefferson Township Council will next meet on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at town hall. Check back this week to see what was discussed. The Jefferson Board of Education will have their last meeting before the new year on Monday at 8 p.m. Author Jennifer Tuma-Young is coming to Curves Jefferson Township on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. for a complimentary Health Seminar while on tour for her book called the Balance Book.  Tuma-Young will give her 7-step program for how to make a true-life change, while telling stories and giving tips for how to live a healthy life. Residents can register for the recreation department high energy, low-impact adult strength training exercise program that will run for nine weeks beginning on Jan. 8. All participants …

'Olde English Feast,' Giving Tree Toy Drive This Week

A look at what's going on this week in Jefferson.

Jefferson Township High School will hold the 28th annual Olde English Feast from Friday through Sunday beginning at 7 p.m. where the school will be transformed into 16th Century England called Castle Jeffersonshire and offer themed food, music, and other fun activities throughout the night. The holiday toy and clothing drive put on by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department, Junior Woman’s Club, and local businesses will end on Monday. All donations will go towards Jefferson families this holiday season. Township Council Meets, JCPTA Hosts Holiday Shop This Week

A look at what to expect going on this week in Jefferson.

The Jefferson Township Council will have their next meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. We'll keep you posted about what was discussed at this week's meeting. The JCPTA will host the Holiday Shop/Vendor Night at Arthur Stanlick Elementary School on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. Residents of all ages are invited to shop for holiday gifts from a number of vendors including home crafts and jewelry. The annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony will be held on Sunday at the Municipal Building to celebrate the season of Hanukkah. The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m., and will have holiday music, a special Hanukkah reading, guest speakers, and traditional holiday foods and refreshments to follow in the lobby in the Municipal Building. Jefferson Tree Lighting, 'Visit With Santa' This Week

A look at the week full of holiday events going on this week in Jefferson.

The township's Christmas tree will be lit on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Township Gazebo. There will be holiday music, a reading of the “The Night Before Christmas," a visit with Santa, and refreshments offered at the holiday celebration. The Recreation Department is hosting a "visit with Santa" on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson. Mrs. Claus and Rudolph will join Santa in handing out good wishes and candy canes to the children. There will be a variety of other holiday activities as well, including holiday music, children’s’ coloring pages, and opportunities to write letters to Santa at the North Pole. BOE Meets, French Club Raises Money For Local Families This Week

Some local businesses will be open on Thanksgiving.

The Jefferson BOE will meet Monday night at 8 p.m. at the high school, and board members will vote on how to make up the lost time from Hurricane Sandy. The Jefferson Township High School French Club will host their second annual Café au Lait on Monday at 7 p.m. where they will raise money to benefit township families for the holidays. All Jefferson schools will have an early dismissal on Wednesday and will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving. We talk to the owner of the Jefferson Diner and several other local businesses who will remain open on Thanksgiving.  JTHS senior Darby Nolan recently signed with Manhattan College to play lacrosse. Motivational Speaker at High School, Couple Due in Court This Week

A Journey Tribute concert will also be going on this coming weekend.

Motivational speaker Keith Hawkins will be speaking at Jefferson High School on Tuesday for a student-only assembly during the day, and then that night for a parent/student night. Check back this week with more information about the event. The Jefferson couple who has been fighting to keep their two African Boerboel dogs that have been deemed "potentially dangerous" will be back in court on Thursday to decide whether they will forfeit the dogs to the township or fight to save them from possibly being euthanized. The Jefferson Township Council will meet on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the municipal building. We'll go over what went on at their latest meeting this week. Annual Fall Festival, Board of Ed Meets This Week

The Pathways of History Museum Tour will also be going on this coming weekend.

The Jefferson Recreation Department is holding its annual Fall Festival at Camp Jefferson on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be plenty of free fall activities, including hayrides, pumpkin picking and decorating, magic shows and entertainment from DJ Earl Heller of Sound Solutions. The Jefferson Board of Education will have its next meeting on Tuesday at Jefferson Township High School at 8 p.m. We'll update you this week about what went on at the meeting. The museum tour will go around 13 historic homes and museums in the township, including the Jefferson Township Museum, this Saturday and Sunday for new exhibits, re-enactments and cosutmed hosts.
