Dog Payment Made 2 Days After Deadline

Kolbs submit first of two required payments to township for housing dogs.

The Jefferson couple who missed their first deadline on Tuesday to pay the township for housing their dogs paid the money on Thursday. Susan and Gary Kolb, who agreed to cover the costs to the township for housing their two African Boerbels ever since they were taken from them last year for violating a court order, submitted the $5,000 two days late. Linda Ackerson, Health Department registrar of vital statistics, said the Kolbs dropped off the money shortly before noon. The Kolbs had agreed last month to make two payments on Nov. 27 and Jan. 27 to cover the costs for holding the dogs at a facility in Andover. Under the agreement with Prosecutor James LaSala, the case—that could put the dogs at risk for euthanization if the court ruled to …

I totally agree. They have repeatedly flouted the authority of the courts and have gotten away with so much. I think they believe (and maybe rightly so) that if you fight the law long enough, the law eventually loses interest. Dogs in Jeopardy Again as Payment Deadline Missed

Susan and Gary Kolb miss first of two required payments to township for housing animals.

The Jefferson couple fighting to keep their two 100-pound-plus dogs deemed "potentially dangerous" may again risk them being euthanized after missing the payment deadline on Tuesday. Gary and Susan Kolb and the township agreed last month to put the case—that could put the dogs at risk for euthanization if the court ruled to forfeit them—on hold if they paid the costs the municipality has spent on housing the two African Boerbels.  Linda Ackerson, Health Department registrar of vital statistics, said the Kolbs didn't make the first of two payments by Tuesday's deadline.  Susan Kolb told Patch Wednesday that the payment was not made in time because her lawyer was unavailable in court all day. She said that she and her husband expect to make …

Couple to Pay $12K to Keep Dogs Alive—For Now

Hearings delayed until criminal case is resolved against Kolbs for walking their 'potentially dangerous' dogs without muzzles.

The Jefferson couple who has been fighting the township to forfeit their two 100-pound-plus dogs will have more time before the dogs are at risk for being euthanized, according to Prosecutor James LaSala. LaSala said Susan and Gary Kolb came to an agreeement in court on Thursday for a "temporary postponent of the case" that would have put the two African Boerbel dogs at risk for being killed. The Kolbs' two "potentially dangerous" dogs have been held by the township since October 2011 when they allegedly violated a statue for walking the dogs without muzzles. Since then, the couple has been in court fighting against the town's ruling to forfeit their dogs. If the couple doesn't forfeit them, they could be killed. If they do agree, LaSala …
