Memorial Wrobo 5K Run/Walk Returns to Jefferson Oct. 6

The 2013 event marks the 15th year the Junior Woman's Club of Jefferson Township has hosted the run.

The Junior Woman's Club of Jefferson Township's 15th Annual Memorial Wrobo 5K Run/Walk takes place at the Municipal Building Sunday, Oct. 6.

The yearly charity event is held to honor USMC 2nd Lt. John T. Wroblewski, an Oak Ridge resident who died in 2004 while serving in Iraq. This year's beneficiary is The Seeing Eye, a nonprofit that breeds and trains guide dogs and matches them with people who are blind .

Interested walkers and runners can register for the rain-or-shine event in advance at www.active.com; race day registration is available from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Pre-registration cost is $25 and race day registration is $30. Complimentary T-shirts and goody bags will be distributed while supplies last.  Refreshments will be served after the race.  Awards will be presented in several categories.  Scoring is done by Compuscore and the course is USA Track and Field certified.
